Williamsburg, Ind., came into existence on March 23, 1830, and at one time was a "boom town" ... but not the way county residents wanted.
When William Johnson in 1830 settled northwest of Richmond, he found there was not a place for a traveler or a new settler to do business in that part of Wayne County.
He concluded there needed to be a good settlement spot since they were far and few between Richmond and Muncie-town.
